Weaving with the 2nd & 3rd Graders

During class time, discussion focused on how the Ancient Greeks portrayed weaving in their pottery and various works of art.  Earlier forms of weaving existed for practical purposes.  However, later on through the centuries, weaving took a more artistic approach.

Students learned that weaving uses at least 3 elements (ingredients) of art - form, texture and color. Student worked on their weaving plates using only 2 mediums: yarn and a paper plate.

The Colors of the Rainbow

The Pre-K have been studying the colors of the rainbow (ROYGBIV).  During class we read the book, Wow! Said the Owl by Tim Hopgood.   Students used watercolors to create their rainbows and then using construction paper, they glued their butterflies and flowers.
Class time also focused on the first rainbow that God made to Noah and his descendants (us).  God made the rainbow as a covenant (promise) that He would never again flood the entire world.
Genesis 9:12-16-
"And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
